The world is fast changing. Educators seem to always be in a hurry trying to catch up with all the new things to teach our children. Sometimes we forget that the most basic things and rules are the most important. Is it maybe because those basics are the hardest to teach? Or is it because we cannot anymore find a way to teach them and expect that our children will soon pick them up…somewhere…somehow?
To teach our children the most valuable lessons of all and those that would remain with them for a lifetime, truly, this is what we should strive for and should continuously help our children secure for themselves.
The educators wanted a name that is not only catchy but that would encompass what we have gained in our journey as teachers and learners. Primarily, we learned that children learn best through experiences and that they make relevant connections to things in the past and in the present, which are not only to prepare them for future circumstances but that would help them achieve and meaningfully learn and cope in the now, and that we believe is what will prepare them to a future worth looking forward to, no matter how unsure it is.
The milestones speak of developmentally appropriate practices that we deem as guidelines to help us ensure that the programs and policies we will be setting up are aligned with the goals of the school. The milestones speak of more than just the limiting stages of development of children. We would like to be able to tap their many wonders and big leaps they take into independence, resilience and realization of their capacities.
